Wanganui, 16th May, 1849. We the undersigned do hereby certify that we have this day witnessed the payment by Mr. McLean of the sum of One thousand pounds, £1,000, to the Ngatiapa tribe as the first instalment of purchase money, for the district of land excepting native reserves, lying between the Rangitikei river and the boundary of the land designated the Wanganui block.
