Auckland 27th. October 1870. Dear Sir Donald, I sincerely thank you for granting me a License as Interpreter. I only applied for it because I was required by Law to have it as Interpreter to the Native Lands Court. Although I have been dismissed by Mr. Fenton from his department, still I know that you retain a friendly feeling towards me, and that the Government do not intend to forget my many years service in their employ. I am stunned by the Official letter, as my License as Interpreter will not (in the present state of Auckland) enable me to keep my family of 7 children. Yours obedient. as ever John White. The Honorable D. McLean C.B. Wellington.
