Brackenfield. Kowai Canterbury Nr. Nov 10. 1865 My dear McLean, It was a very kind attention in you to write to me about the East Coast Victory -- the East Coast affairs have no doubt been a great triumph for our ministry especially as Sir George would have done things quite differently had he had his own way but we must refer the greatest credit to you yourself had you been put in the position we wished by Fitzgerald's bill to have been enabled to put you in all would now have been well. The people here are most enthusiastic on our side. Ward is at a discount and FitzGerald has had quite a triumph I am still too weak to go to meetings but hope to hold one next week. Write home sometimes and believe me Yours very faithfully, Fred. A. Weld.
