Auckland Sep. 12, 1866 Dear McLean, I write to thank you for the very able and energetic assistance that is rendered to the Law Court by your survey department. Nothing could be more admirable than than Mr. Webber's promptitude I wish other Superintends would only do the same. The question of allocation of expence can of course be easily arranged at any time, and it is not a matter, in fact, of much moment, for if it is charged immediately on the hands of the Court - it will, (as far as your province is concerned be deducted from the 10 per cent, so it will come to the same thing in the end. They say that you are an enemy of the Act. All I can say is that I wish I had a few more such enemies to deal with, as Superintendents. It looks as if Hawkes Bay will soon be worked up. Yours sincerely, P. D. Fenton
