Napier 1st January/61 My dear McLean, About the 20th of Novr. I sent you letter of application for an appointment to the Col. Sec. left open. Will you kindly let me know what has been done about it? if you have any objection to present the letter, pray send it to the Post, any reply is better than uncertainty, and when the iron is hot it is better to work, for the verbal promises of official men do not seem to be of much avail. Yours very sincerely, M. Fitzgerald.
