Sir, Referring to our conversation on the subject of Te Kooti's capture, and to the party named by you as likely to effect this object, I have the honour to state that whilst the Government cannot be a party to any operation - - - - - the employment of any Military Force not under its - - - - control, yet supposing the means resorted to, to be such as do not interfere with the operations of the Government, it would look to the result as equally satisfactory, by whomsoever achieved; and would undertake to pay the sum of £ 5000 to any person of either race who might place Te Kooti in their hands.
