Dear Sir, I have for some time been endeavouring to persuade the tribe with which I am more immediately connected viz. the Ngau Ngau to send a Representative to the Native Meeting at Kohimarama - they have now consented and delected Reihana Purutu or Reihana Wetere as he is sometimes termed of Motu Tarata. Afraid of the meeting being broken up before Reihana can arrive they have asked me to write to you to request that you would in case of approval send him a formal invitation. Hore Kingi te Paki who is now the head Chief (since Paora Ti Rua's death) of this tribe and who is also a Native Kai whakawa and as such received an official invitation - has for some time past ceased to take any interest in tribal matters (owing it is said to his marrying a young wife). Consequently Reihana who is a very shrewd clever man takes the lead in the Tribe. A letter if left outside the Rangiawhia Mail bag and sent by return of this post, directed to be left at Motu Taiata would reach Reihana about the 9th. or 10th. inst. and he would then start immediately as he is anxious to be present. I am happy to tell you that the views of the King party are modified of late so far as I can judge their expressions.
