Napier Mch 6/65 My dear McLean I have been busy in the office until the last moment and I doubt if I shall get this posted - Every thing is still quiet - but the native element shows symptoms of restlessness - Biggs and Towgood the natives have turned off their land, and refuse to listen to Cooper - The Kings flag flys at Petene as usual and at Te Hapuku's-pah - A still larger number of the Pai Mariri fanatics are by this time at lower Wairoa on their road here with some Pakeha heads - Very few natives attended the races this year and the meet was without accident or disturbance. I have concluded a financial arrangement with Mr. Thos. Russell on the part of the Bank of N. Z. Much the same as Brandon had offered - save that no interest is allowed on deposits - except as with ordinary customers - We are not likely to have very large deposits so it will not much affect us - I trust you are recovering fast - and will soon be back. In haste Yours very truly Joseph Rhodes
