5 August 1861 Maraekakaho My dear brother I have arrived hear a few days ago and I should have gone up to Auckland to explain maters to you but I have to se some of the natives hear before I go as they have changed much since I was hear last. So maney people offering them rents for their land and they want to be paid back rents at the same rate and the timber taken out of the bush. A new party claims but I hope in a few days with the help of an old friend I shall be abble to keep them in their old way till such time as I se you as I don't intend to offer them rent till such time as it is legal to do so.
