We have been in an excited state up here of late, but I must say that all is quiet. Pay no attention to reports that you hear. When I left yesterday late in the afternoon, the meeting at Te Kuiti had not broke up. About three or four hundred Natives were collected, but no results. I had a message from Manga that he would send me word, the results of the Talk at Te Kuiti, but I waited until late and heard nothing worth taking any notice of. All I hear is this - that he - Rewi proposed this - "All you that want to fight go to Taupo, & make war with 'Poihipi'" - This I consider is just a counter action for the Waikatos. I have not been molested myself, not a breath of any offensive kind has been spoken to me - I met Tuhoro & party just after I left home yesterday afternoon - We are all quiet - Whitiora passed with all his followers through my place on his road to the Kuiti - about Forty - and it appeared to me that he brought them past me to show his armed followers - "There is Ruihi touch him if you dare" - No one spoke an offensive word to myself - It is all humbug the reports that go from here and doing a great deal of injury to the District - I hope you will pardon this short scrawl the mail is just closing - I shall return home today and I may hear something more certain and I will let you know - My kind regards to you all We are all quiet and well and desired to be remembered to you all with all our kind regards to all I remain &c (sd) Louis Hetit
