Orongorongo 31 Decr. 1853 Dear Maclean, A report reached us two days ago that you had despatched the Wakatohe for Mr. Riddiford. Up to this morning we have held ourselves in readiness for a start but as no one has arrived we begin to suspect that our presence is not now wanted. Should you deem it advisable to complete the purchases of our Runs before the departure of the natives we shall loose no time in coming in. We are anxiously expecting Tollemache and my brother's return till then we shall remain here, unless our presence is actually wanted in town. You can command our attendance within 24 hours after your despatch. Yours always, Purvis Russell.
