My dear Sir, I have just returned from Ahu Ahu, where a Committee was held, at which I was invited to attend by Hikahu Taounui, and Wetini Wahia, the two old Chiefs of the Interior, who arrived the day after your departure from Kawhia. It will be sufficient to say that these Chiefs are, or pretend to be, opposed to the sale of all lands in this and the Mokau district; and particularly Purehari. Hikaka returned the money token sent him from Mokau. He alluded in a speech to an offer made by him of land between the Taniwa
