Wellington 19th July 1859 Dr Sir, I have got a large number of papers etc. etc. for you here I proposed previously to seeing Tiffin who arrived here in the W. Swan on Saturday night last to have forwarded them on to Napier, his informing me that you were to start this day on your journey southwards has decided me to retain them the more than one report says that you travel south via Wairarapa another that you purpose coming thro the 40 mile bush, either road at this time you will find rather unpleasantly muddy and rivery deep I have been detained for the last week by incessant rain and purposed starting today or tomorrow if fine for Waikanae to make the survey and complete the purchase of that block at once. Stewarts leaves tomorrow (if fine) for Manawatu to make the survey of the Awa hou purchase, his plan is as far finished as practicable at present and the block containing I may say about 240,000 acres, I have written to the Hirawanui to know whether he would like to see me about the block or not. Fraser has almost completed the plan of the Tupurupuru block this when completed will also be ready for proclamation I purpose getting him to the head of the valley to make surveys of blocks and reserves in that District, I do trust by the summer to get surveys a little straight. I wrote to you privately a week ago and trust that you have received it and that I shall hear from you in answer. I expect to be if the weather clears up not more than three weeks at Waikanae where I hope to hear from you if you purpose coming thro the Wairarapa had I not better meet you there. I see Mr. Strang occasionally and do not think he is looking so well as he might but perhaps he is affected by the weather. Dr. Buck surgeon at the Hutt committed suicide yesterday morn by cutting his throat with an amputating knife, instantaneous death was the result. He had been in a morbid state since his return from Napier where he went for his health rather shaken by a touch of D. T. every thing very dull here. Yours very truly, Will N. Searancke D. McLean Esqre, NAPIER.
