Letter from W.N. Searancke, to D. McLean Esq. dated 12th. May 1856. May 12th. 1856. D. Maclean Esq. Principal Commissioner etc., etc., Dear Sir, I have this morning arrived at Waiuku, in company with Arama Karaka. He has pointed out to me the boundaries of a Block of land on the lower side, or Westward of the Awaroa, covering an area of some (I imagine) three or four thousand acres of land, including several islands in the Waikato river, consisting of low swampy flax. I purpose immediately surveying the boundaries of the land adjoining the Awaroa, but will await instructions from you as regards the Islands, which will be a very troublesome and unpleasant task to survey; and I may also remark, will take considerable time. I purpose as soon as this is finished, to proceed on to the Piako, and finish up all the different Blocks of land, before I go to Auckland. I am, dear Sir, Yours to command, (Signed) Will. N. Searancke. Waiuku. P.S. You will oblige me by letting me know respecting the Islands, as to whether you require their being surveyed, or not. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
