Turiroa, June 7th, /65. Dear Sir, I am now surveying Turiroa. If the government intends to carry out the military settlement scheme this would be a very good place for one at the crossing of the Wairoa on the main road to the northern end of the province, for the road must go through the Hinepuka valley - Paora Apatu and others wish to have an agent in Napier to buy and sell their maize etc. I was thinking of Mr. Kinross if he will take it, if he will they would like to know the price of maize now, and they will send down a cargo, Lamont who is here from his store made a slight mistake for a new starter he asked more for goods than they would be got here for and would give but little for maize etc., all goes on quietly here for the present. I remain, Dear Sir, Your obt. svt., S. Locke. To His Honor, D. McLean, Napier.
