(from rough copy.) My dear Sir William, I have only just received your kind letter of the 11th. and I feel much gratified with its contents. I shall be happy, any day that suits, to meet you in town, or at your own place, if more Convenient. I sincerely trust that it may not be long before a lasting peace is concluded with the natives. I was very much pleased with the demeanour of the Waikato and Ngatimaniapoto Chiefs. I remain My dear Sir William Yours very truly (Sighed) Donald McLean. November 13th. 1869.
