Blockhouse Mohaka January 22nd. 1869 Sir, I have the honor to request that you will instruct me what to do with the stores and ammunition in the Blockhouse. What an I to do with the steres? It would not be safe to leave them in the Blockhouse without a guard; and should it be removed to the Pa, the stores would be sure to suffer. Could the ammunition be given in charge to Paora Rerepu? Should you wish things to remain as they are. I can get a guard to do duty as formerly, but they are getting anxious for their pay. Capt. Withers, when here, advised me to write the Defence Minister about our pay, as he was not authorised to pay any one but those engaged in the field. I wrote, and sent the letter through him, and have heard nothing from him since.
