25th Sept., 1874. My dear Mr. Reynolds, Will you be so good as to cause enquiries to be made respecting the man described in the endorsed letter: as well by advertisement as by police. The threatening appearance of the weather has induced me as well as Captain Simpson to remain here till Saturday morning, but I hope to get away on that day and to be lucky in my further progress and return. Will you have the kindness to say to Sir D.McLean that I think it will be as well to fix the Otaki meeting for about the beginning of the last week in October. Believe me, Yours sincerely, James Fergusson. I have a letter from Ld.Normanby written on first hearing of his appointment from the extreme North of Queensland. He did not think he could be here before the middle of November as his Commission could hardly reach him sooner. I dare say I shall hear something more definite soon.
