Auckland 29 Nov. 1866 My dear McLean I was very sorry to find that my instructions about the "Sturt" were not literally carried out, however I hope that no harm has resulted. I am anxious that she should come on to Auckland as soon as possible, as I want to send Guns and ammunition, Tents etc. to Napier and Wellington. Will you therefore please direct Fairchild to come here, as soon as he has taken all the Military Settlers to Napier - There is no news of importance here, but there is no doubt that the natives are prepared for a move from Hangatiki - if they attempt a raid in your direction, we will be able to pounce upon their rear and perhaps take possession of Hangatiki, at all events destroy their whare's and cultivations Yours very truly T. M. Haultain
