Report from 3rd. to 16th. of August 1851, inclusive. 3 Sunday Parade. One of the Police on duty in Town during Divine Service. Enclosed to you copy of Resolutions agreed to at meeting of 2nd. instant. "Lucy James" sailed for Wellington, passengers Private Rawiri and Te Kopi - cargo 5 tons potatoes 1 1/2 tons maize 5 tons flour. 4 Private Heale resumed duty. Posted the usual fortnightly report and abstracts for your signature. Overland Mail left for Wellington. Private Hakopa, having been stationed on Mr. Humphries' premises at night since the 29th. ultimo, was withdrawn and placed on duty in Town with Heale. 5 Mr. Humphries came to Barracks and reported that remainder of pork (about 60 lbs.) in the tub, was stolen last night. 7 Court Day. Oliver and anr. v. Oxenham - case, damages for breach of agreement - judgment for plaintiff. same v. same - case, debt, judgment for plaintiff. Jordan v. Day - case, detaining 19/6 in change - judgment for plaintiff. Lakeman v. Emily Lethbridge - case, debt, judgment for plaintiff. 8 On Manahi's complaint Johnson and Hakopa went to a Native Reserve inland of Moturoa to ascertain amount of damage done to maize belonging to Wiremu Patene by R. Rundle's pigs - damages estimated at 24/-. 9 General muster and drill - Tahana and Taumata came to Barracks. Died, after a short illness, Mrs. Meale, aged 63. Overland Mail from Wellington, received a letter from you. Hakopa reported a case of pig killing at Waiwakaiho. Received a note from Mr. Richard Brown stating that two pigs belonging to Mr. Richardson had been killed by Henere and Te Hira. 10 Sunday Parade. Police on duty in Town during the day. 11 Attended at Police Office - Tiki (the postman) laid an information against J. Hawke the younger for assaulting him yesterday afternoon. Received a summons agst. Hawke. On my way to Waiwakaiho with Hakopa met Hone Ropiha - coming into town - he had been to Henere and made inquiries into the case of pig killing. 12 Went to Waiwakaiho with Hokopa. Saw Henere and Te Hira, the former said Mr. Richardson's pigs were constantly trespassing and had recently eaten five kits of seed potatoes belonging to him - that the man in charge though repeatedly told of this neglected to look after them - he would therefore only give 10/- damages. Called on Mr. R. Brown, he was willing to take £1. to prevent if possible a repetition of the offence. 13 The funerals of the late Mrs. Veale, at the Wesleyan burial ground, and Stephen Penfold, at the Church, took place and were numerously attended. Hoera Tiki v. Hawke arranged out of Court. Te Ngahuru came to Town. 16 General muster and drill. Hone Ropiha succeeded in getting £1 from Henere and Te Hira as payment for the pigs and Mr. Richard Brown was satisfied. Police doing Town duty, Johnson, Hakopa and Heale. H. Halse. Sergt.
