Government House, New Zealand Wednesday Eveng. May 8, 72 My dear McLean, I have just returned after a successful excursion, Ahipene and the principal natives at Waiuku had gone on a visit to Tawhiao. I saw Hori Tauroa's son and others. I have found here the enclosed letters. Pray have translations sent me. Is Hapurona who signs one of these letters the "fighting chief" of William King? What news from the Waikato or elsewhere? Fox writes to me that some rebellious speeches have been made at Otaki. I should like to see any recent reports from Mair, or others of your Agents? Ever Yours very truly, G. F. Bowen. to:- The Honble. Donald McLean C.M.G.
