Russell 9th. Feb. 1861. My dear Sir, I was here on Tuesday last when I received your official letter of the 22nd. Janr. I sent immediately to all the Chiefs. I return by leave Duncan here to receive your instructions - whether I should return to meet you here Most of the natives here will go to the Te - Heny Williams place on Monday - there will be I expect a large gathering to consult upon the liquor question - I referred to it in one of my official letters - I have consulted with Mr. Kemp and we think if His Excellency the Governor wishes to see the natives he could not meet at one time a larger number than is likely to be at the Te on Tuesday - If you should arrive tomorrow I can be hence on Monday if you wish it. Yours faithfully, James R Clendon. To:-- D McLean Esq
