Memo. In the Westland deed of purchase reserves were set aside to pay for the survey of the other reserves. These reserves have not been sold but if the Canterbury Govt. made an advance for the purpose it is probable that the money would be repaid to Canterbury not to Westland I write only from memory, but I shall be much obliged to the Hon Native Minister if before any final action is taken he will set the Canterbury Govt. know as there are several outstanding accounts for which I have been unable to obtain settlement from Westland for the settlement of which this matter would afford suitable occasion.
