Thursday evening March 23rd. 1854. My dear McLean, I promised the Superintendent to write you a line about Rogan. He wishes, in the event of the lands being placed in the power of the Provincial authorities (which he seems now to anticipate with certainty) to offer Rogan an appointment if it can be done without in any way appearing to interfere with his arrangements with Standish and Horris. It is on this account that he wished the message sent through you, instead of direct to Rogan, so that he may not be compromised even in appearance. What he wishes to offer to Rogan is to join the survey staff at £150 per annum, to be increased to £200 as soon as the land revenue can afford to pay it. Will you be gind enough to mention this to Rogan, although I do not, I must confess, quite see what either yoh or I have to do in the matter. However I have written this note in compliance with Mr. Brown's request, and there is an end of the matter. Faithfully yours, G. S. Cooper.
