I have to recommend for the favourable consideration of His Excellency's Government, that a sum of Four hundred pounds, £400.0.0, should be paid to the native Chief Raniera te Iho, for himself and his tribe, out of the 5 per cents of lands sold by them to the Crown; which they are anxious to invest in erecting a Mill. It has been resolved publicly by the tribes of the lower Wairarapa, that the above sum should be laid out in erecting a mill. Raniera has been entrusted by all the claimants to receive the money, and undertake the management of all matters connected with its construction;
