W. J. Snodgrass Esq. Motuotaraea Mount Herbert Waipukurau 10th March 1860 Sir, I beg to intimate to you that a fine of Fifty Pounds, with costs £1.4.6, has been imposed on you by the Bench of Magistrates at Waipukurau on 8th March. You will, therefore, have the goodness to pay the same into Court as soon as possible. At the same time, if you wish to appeal to the Governor for a mitigation of the fine I am desired to inform you that the Bench will not be opposed to granting you such delay as will enable you to obtain an answer to your Memorial. It rests with His Excellency alone to remit or mitigate - the Magistrates have no option but to impose a fine of £50 when a case is proved. I am, Sir, Your Obed.Servt. H. R. Russell Chairman of the Bench
