Te Aute, Octr. 24th /66 My Dear McLean Would it not be advisable to get Renata and Kerei to communicate through Patea with the Friendly Natives at Taupo and if necessary as far as the Arawas in order that we may be informed of any movement in that quarter? I presume that the Taupo Natives would know what is going on in Waikato. The same Messenger might at the same time learn what We Hapis? intentions are as Patea is often his line of communication. A trusty messenger should be sent and I should advise him not to repeat the report from Wairarapa. Yours in haste Saml. Williams Your messenger from Porangahau reached this last Night at 9 Oclock, and I told him of the change of messenger of which he appeared quite ignorant. S.W.
