New Plymouth 29th, July 1850. Dear Sir, I write to inform you that Mr. Richardson, an elderly gentleman, passenger by the "Poietiers", is living with me, and occupying the room behind my own, under the following circumstances. Mr. Richardson was living with the Horns; and owing to some pecuniary differences, it became necessary that he should leave their house, and he endeavoured to get quarters elsewhere, without success. As a last resort, he was recommended to apply to me; when I explained my position and told him that in your absence, I would speak to Captain King, and that gentleman had no objection; so I have received him, subject to your approval. You will therefore see the necessity of the case, and rather than lose a valuable settler, who has since told me that he intends to send to England for his wife and family, and that several of their relations will follow them, I have, on the best authority I could obtain, before communicating with you, taken him in; and in doing so, I hope I have not acted wrong. Wiremu Kingi, and other Waitara
