Wellington Sept. 4/71. To the Hon D. McLean, Defence Minister. Hon. Sir, I went to Col. Moule in order to join the armed constabulary and he told me it would be three months before he could put me on. If you can do anything for me in the meantime I shall feel extremely grateful and consider it a service rendered me, I shall not forget. You may recollect me as being the person who took the Despatches from Napier to Fort Galatea with Major Birch. I think this service entitles me to some recognition from the Government. If you will give me a reply either verbally or by letter I shall feel the courtesy. I have the honor to be Your obedt. servt., John Livingston.
