care in conveying it overland. In counting the silver, I found one of the bags of £50 contained an extra guinea £1.1.0, which leaves that amount over and above the One Thousand Pounds. Mr. Dommett, The sum had better be paid to the Treasury, but I do not know that it belongs to it as a matter of course; for I apprehend Mr. McDonagh received the money and gave a receipt to the Treasurer, which relieved the latter from responsibility, and so Major Durie, again Mr. McDonagh, and thus the amount and receipt passed through several hands without the sum being ever counted.
