Wanganui 23rd March 1859 My dear McLean, I have just received yours of 21st Inst. and am glad to find His Excellency is improving in health and that there is some chance of our seeing him yet before long. I have just posted a long official to the Colonial Secretary Auckland, under cover to the Postmaster, requesting him to forward it to the Governor should he still be at Taranaki, as it is of importance relating to native affairs in this District. Try and come overland yourself as the Waitotara natives are anxious to see you about disposing of their land. Mamaku is at present sitting in my office, and is much disappointed, he intends returning I believe tomorrow he and his people having no more food here. Cannot you persuade the Governor to ask the Roman Catholic Bishop to relieve Lampila from this place - he is a regular Firebrand on the river. The weather is now beautiful.
