Napier April 9th/66 Dear Sir I was on my way into the country when I heard that you had arrived by the St. Kilda - I know that Mr. Rhodes and others wish me to go to Turanga - But if you intend to carry out in its integrity the scheme you spoke of, it would be useless going for the purpose of looking after runs etc. Perhaps I have no right to ask you such a question - But to go there for no purpose would be do much loss of time to me - Therefore I ask you whether you think it likely that the scheme which I certainly think the proper one, will be carried out or not, to the letter - exempt me and the scheme ends - I remain, Dear Sir Your Obt.St. S. Locke To His Honor D. McLean Esq. Napier
