Baker, from uawa; who arrived with the celebrated Chief Te Kani Otakirau, who frankly welcomed me, although he was taken rather by surprise when I got up to him. We got back in a heavy fall of rain to Mr. Harris'. The only emblem of Chieftainship about Te Kani's person, was a bone meri, decorated with tapes of hair about the handle,
