April 19/67 My dear Sir I had your note last night. I am glad you approve of the steps I have taken in the matter of Kopus funeral. Fraser will tell you how the affair went off and next week I will send you all the speeches made on the occasion. It appears they are trying to fix a "Makutu" on Te Warus shoulders - I must try and put a stop to it as if they really believe such an absurd story it will have a very bad effect as you must be aware. I will write fully on this and other matters next week. I have got about 120 signatures to the deed of cession "Hamanas" among them. I wrote to Mr. Richmond asking to approve of the expense of Kopus funeral. The poor old mans death has cast a sad gloom over the place as you may imagine. I am my dear Sir Truly yours S. Deighton.
