''Clyde'' Jany. 5 69 9 p.m. Dear Sir, The messenger from 'Turanga' is just in bringing dispatch from Mr. Richmond for the officer commanding here. The fate of the garrison at ''Ngatapa'' appears sealed - the messenger left Turanga last eveng. and the latest news from the front was up to Sunday reporting the death of Capt. Brown: the ld. forces appear to have surrounded the position and to have captured the water hole - this latter not mentioned in despatch. Everything seems to confirm the idea that 'Te Waru' and 'Nikora' have made their way to the lake District. Would it not be advisable to make a reconnaissance to the ''Onepoto'' and 'Tiki Tiki' - ''Pairau'' has as yet returned no answer to the letter sent from here - and of which I gave you a copy - If any attempt were made from here good men could be spared from ''Te Wairoa'' - which with Henare's lot would make men, enough I fancy for any service that might be required of them - I am dear Sir Your obedt. servt. Geo. B. Worgan His Honor D. McLean Esqr.
