Napier 1 Feby. 60 My dear McLean, I send you a hand sketch made in the field without survey of the Rameka and Rongotawhau blocks which may be of some use, the Pukititiri bush survey is not completed yet Cooper has never been to the place at all I sent back these but after being away some time he returned yesterday bringing rather disagreeable news, that the Taupo natives who had come down by appointment to meet Cooper had returned as well as the Pawhakairo ones, they are all disgusted with this and from what I can learn he has attemptedto throw the blame on the Surveyors, you ought to come here if possible for your work is more than retarded by your deputy. I wrote you a few days ago to Wellington informing you of the increase to the the family of Fitzgerald by a daughter - every thing going on well, Tiffen has compelled me to fight him, and we are hard at it he reported me and I have demanded an explanation which is going on. Very truly in haste, M. Fitzgerald I go to Te Aute today to try and do something towards pushing on the work with Cooper. Lock appears to have zeal with natives and in the work, but his pay is M. F.
