The Resident Magistrate gave Private Stewart permission to live in Government House, on his own application. Mr. Murch complained of the loss of two coats and a pair of trousers, yesterday, from his house. Hakopa left for Puketapu. A Meeting of gentlemen convened by Mr. Cutfield, preparatory to his departure for Wellington. Court Day. Wilson v. Walker, debt. Mr. Kemp appeared for the defendant. Case dismissed. General muster. Attended at the Police Office. Overland Mail from Auckland and Wellington. The Resident Magistrate, on behalf of Government, gave Hakopa \'c2\'a31, for services rendered during the late wreck. The "Lucy James", Joyce, from Manukau and Kawhia; passengers - Mr. Edwin Davy, Mr. Boultrop and wife, Messrs. Elliot, Reed, Barriball, Gollop, McDougal, Edwards, wife and 3 children; cargo - general, and 559 bushels wheat. The "Shepherdess", Swan, from Kawhia; cargo - 1,000 bushels wheat. Overland Mail left for Auckland. Matiu, son of Pohorama of Ngamotu, died. Hakopa left for Waitara. I went to Ihaka's Reserve, and arranged a case of cattle trespass. Shute v. Jordan; case - cattle wandering at large. Mr. Kemp appeared for the defendant; decision, defendant fined 4d. a head, with costs. Hakopa returned from Waitara this evening, having been detained by freshets caused by the late rains. General muster and drill. Hakopa and Stewart went to Waiwakaiho, and estimated amount of damage to Ihakara's corn, caused by Mr. Nairn's cattle, at 8/-. The duties of the Police continue as usual, and all is quiet here.
