Mangungu Oct. 30 1858. Dear Sir, No te mea ko koe te tumuaki o tatou I write to let you know what is doing in this part the Natives are all at peace and intend to have two meetings of all the Hokianga Natives in the latter part of december, one is to be at the Heads of Hokianga and the other at this place, the intention of the chiefs in calling the meetings is to propose that the Natives of Hokianga should submit to the English laws as a whole and to do away with the Maori tikanga if you think fit that I should keep you informed of such little things I will feel much pleasure in doing so.
