Wairoa March 9th 65 Sir, I think it my duty to write you information of the arrival of the priests of the 'Pai Mariri' in this river - and of the ready acceptance of their teaching by a large number of the natives. Their present head quarters are at 'Manga Arohe' and the whole of the native population of that place and several others adjoining have gone over. I have many sources of undeniable information open to me - and I should not write upon slight grounds: from the tone of these new missionaries there is reason to believe that it is a scheme to produce disturbance in this quarter in aid of the rebels at 'Taranaki' 'Patea' and the West Coast. I shall take every opportunity of acquiring information further on the subject and will furnish it to the Government as I obtain it. I have the honor to remain, Sir, Your Obedt. Servt. Geo. B. Worgan To: His Honor the Superintendent.
