Wi Te Whero to Hon. Mr. McLean. Te Kohe Kohe. Waikato. August 23rd. 1870. Friend Mr. McLean. Salutations to you. Nini Kukutai has returned from his returned from his visit to the Kuiti; and he has given me an account of what took place. He tells me that one of the proposals made by Manuwhiri, during the time that I was last there has been set aside, I mean the appointment of a Meeting which was to take place on a time to be appointed. He even alluded to the Waiata (chant) which he intended to recite at that Meeting; and gave to it the name of ''He pou-Kia noho'', which signifies that peace was to be firmly established. It seems to me that the result (of Nini's visit) has been almost to do away with the present peaceable intentions.
