'Wairoa' March 9, 69 Sir, I have the honor to report that Felix Goulet escaped from his station on ''Sunday'' morng. last with his wife and children but almost without clothing and arrived last eveng. (Monday) at 'Tariroa'. It would appear that the enemy had intended to cut him off -- and that in all probability 'Te Warehi' and 'Te Amo' have been slain The natives of the 'Wairoa' are very much excited -- We have no further actual knowledge than that conveyed in the enclosed statement of Felix himself -- and the corroborative testimony of a negative character in the non appearance of 'Te Warehi' and companions, whonif alive would have reached Wairoa within four or five hours of their leaving the Station. I must say that the circumstance is one which might have been naturally looked for -- and Felix was warned repeatedly of the danger he ran in remaining in such close proximity to the known quarters of the Enemy. 'Ihaka Wanga' has been written to and may be expected here tomorrow with his men to meet the Pay master -- some conference with the chiefs will follow which I will duly report.
