It is clear that McDonald has put himself withing the reach of the law by obstructing Carkeek. I think, and Sewell agrees, that you should let McDonald know that you insist upon his refraining from further obstructions, and that if he interferes again with any surveyor under Government instructions, the law will be put in force against him. It is becoming too irritating to hear, that after all the patience exercised, and the sacrifices made in this matter, the Government of the Colony is to be bearded by one Pakeha instigating a mob of Maoris, who, but for him, would give no trouble.
