. New Plymouth April 30/ 61 Dr. Sir My official of today will explain in some measure the state of feeling among the Southern people, who are evidently not sufficiently humbled to be anxious for peace. I was at Mataitawa yesterday, and found them very unsettled respecting the future. I am convinced that nothing can be done with them until William King is back from Waikato (that is out of the hands of Waikato before anything is said about land.) I purpose going to see the Ngamahangas in a day or two. Yours truly R. Parris.
