Te Teko 18th August 1871 My dear Mr. McLean I enclose for your own information, a return showing the amount of stores - that I packed from Maketu to Ohinemutu and Kaiteriria from January to December 1870 - and the average cost of the "whole" at per 1b. which is about 3 3/4 - I have not heard anything of Capt. Preece and Mair since they left on the 31st of last month - I am keeping a good look out for Te Kooti - both at this post also at Fort Galatea, where I have 20 men stationed - and I myself keep continually moving from one post to the other - to see if everything is going on alright - I am very glad to hear - that the road from Matata to this place - is to be finished - What a difference it makes to the country now - seeing roads - being made everywhere - to what it was - some few years ago - We have had some heavy shocks here lately - Trusting that you are quite well I remain Yours ever sincerely Herbert F. Way
