H.W.P.S. Aorangi 3rd. Sept. 1872. My dear Maclean, I hope my letter to you of last week has duly arrived. I notice in the "Herald" that an Act will likely be passed just now to prohibit the importation of cattle or sheep, to guard against "Foot and Mouth disease." Last month, I ordered from Victoria some valuable Merino sheep, and they are likely to land here in a month. I will be very glad indeed if you can conveniently let me know if the Act is likely to interfere with the landing of the sheep. Surely due notice of such an Act will be given; but you, of course, will know, and my mind will be at ease, if I can hear from you on the subject. I remain Yours sincerely (Signed) H.W.P. Smith.
