15th August 1860 My dear Sir, I have found it impossible to remake all my accounts up before the sailing of the Steamer, now within half an hour of starting. I have been engaged on the Plans and returns etc. etc. which I hope will meet with your approval up to within the last two hours, I hear that the Victoria is on her way down and may be hourly expected, if she will remain only 24 hours, all accounts made up to this date shall be fowarded by her, I have reported very fully on the Wairarapa Plan I mention this because it may be imagined that Fraser has not done so much as he ought to have, his name not being particularly mentioned in any case now I do wish to record my opinion of him that he is an excellent surveyor fully up in every branch of his profession and the only man I know capable of completing the survey of the Wairarapa District or to whom it can with any safety be entrusted. I mention this in justice to him. Your's most truly, Will N. Searancke
