Monday June 30. 1856. My dear Sir, There is little to communicate since the steamer left for Manukau on Friday last beyond Arama Karaka having received a letter from Tamati Hone calling upon him to abandon the Ninia pa and the land around it as utu for Piripi, the demand was rejected by A.K. who wished that the correspondence should stop there. Nikorima has unexpectedly forestalled the Ngatiruanui natives by throwing up a pa at the Ikamoana. The number of natives now on our eastern borders under arms may be estimated at 1200 - on our western there may be about 300. Taranaki natives who are suspected of sympathising with Katatore. Tomo fixed for a field day. In haste faithfully yours, H. Halse. P. S. I have been thrown back in supplying Major Murray with latest information.
