Saturday Oct. 24/68 My dear McLean I am afraid you will be much annoyed on your return to Wairoa and learning the state of matters there. Politically and otherwise this affair will do us great harm with our enemies - False alarms must not occur again and this one should be punished where blame attaches. I came in fully expecting to hear something more from Wairoa today; but scarcely expecting to see you back again although you may be tomorrow or Monday. Yours truly Joseph Rhodes
