28th. May. (year omitted.) My dear McLean, It will give me immense pleasure to see you here; if you will be so kind as to look in upon us, as you say you will do, on your return. Had I been able, I certainly should have been one of the earliest to welcome you to Hamilton. Your presence in Waikato is always attended with great good to us all. I hope and trust our friend will not attempt to come up until you are fully satisfied that such is desirable. I can't tell you what a relief it was to me to know he was not with you. I am truly glad to hear that the English news is so very satisfactory. With your Ministry in Office, I don't fear for New Zealand's future. Mrs. Leslie desires very kind regards, and looks forward with great pleasure to seeing you, and believe me, Most sincerely, (Signed) P. Leslie. Sergeant Fraser tells me you were so kind as to send for him, and he is most grateful for the very kind way in which you spoke to him. He is a very fine fellow, and no disgrace to the Lowats.
