Napier December 10th. 1869. Dear Sir, I forwarded you two letters I got from Poihipi - one from the King to him, asking him to go to Tokongamutu. Poihipi wants to give a feast at Tapuaeharuru, and invite the King and all the West shore natives, and also those along the Waikato; so as to open the road to Cambridge. As soon as the result is known of this Wanganui expedition, it would be a very good thing to have a Meeting at Taupo. I talked it over with Poihipi and others, some time back; and I hear you mentioned it in a letter also. I should like to have the King's letter back, as Poihipi might want it. Karaitiana came to see me last night in a great state about his lands. They are trying to drive and compel him to sell Heretaunga, and he does not wish to. Sumnaonses and Warrants, etc. etc. are brought to bear. The Government and the people will have to suffer for these things some day. Karaitiana now wishes to get his share in the different Blocks, separately from the others, as he says the people are being done out of theirs by the store-keepers; and the Government is always making new laws to ''Wakawai'' and also deprive them of their property. Everything is very quiet here. You will hear all about the native being missed at Mohaka. Nothing particular is yet known about it. I have just get a map showing the boundaries of the Taupo district. I see it goes to near Cambridge and Te Awamutu, and to the borders of Taranaki at Mokau. I should think the boundaries of the Magistrates' districts want re-modelling. Frazer was here the other day. I never saw him looking so well before. He has appointed Guff to collect his debts. The best thing he could do. I see you have Pilliet with you. I remain Yours sincerely (Signed) S. Locke.
